Can you play an RSPS on a phone?
Yes, on some servers. Mobile RSPS means a RuneScape private server that provides its own Android or iPhone client, since the official Old School app only connects to Jagex servers. Support is not universal, so the first step is to find a server that lists mobile clients. Our RuneScape private server list notes which checked servers mention them.
Mobile delivery falls into two styles. Android players are usually given an APK file from the server's website. On the servers we checked, iPhone and iPad players are usually sent to a browser-based client instead, and none of them lists an App Store download.

Which servers offer mobile play
The table lists checked servers from our research that mention mobile support on their own websites. It records what the sites said when we looked, and it is not a recommendation. Features and download pages change, so confirm on the server's site.
| Server | Platforms it lists | How mobile works |
|---|---|---|
| Luna | PC, iPhone, iPad, Android | iOS uses a browser client added to the home screen; Android uses an APK from the download page |
| Slayora | Java jar, Android APK, iOS web client | iPhone and iPad run in Safari without installing anything |
| EmberHold | Windows, macOS, Linux, jar, Android APK, iOS | iOS listed as play in browser; Android is a direct APK install |
| Amascut | iOS and Android | Links to a play page; install steps are not shown on the front page |
Activity differs. On the day of our check, Discord presence showed about 177 members online for Luna, 164 for Amascut, 110 for Slayora and 67 for EmberHold. Those are snapshots rather than player counts, but they hint at how busy each community is, which matters when you want company on a phone.
These are mostly OSRS-based servers with custom content, and many focus on bossing, so see PvM and raids servers if raids are your reason for playing on a phone.
Step by step setup
- 1
Pick a server that lists mobile
Open its website and look for Android, iOS or browser client links before you register.
- 2
Check recent activity
Read the newest news post and see if the Discord shows people online.
- 3
Download from the official page
Use only the link on the server's own site. Never use a link posted by a stranger.
- 4
Android: use the APK
Choose the APK on the server's download page, then follow the server's mobile setup guide.
- 5
iPhone and iPad: use the browser client
On Luna's instructions, open the mobile web client in Safari and use the Share menu to add it to the home screen for fullscreen play.
- 6
Make a separate account
Use a unique password. EmberHold says an account is created automatically on first in-game login.
Read the safety guide and the general how to join a private server steps before you register. The glossary covers jargon like ironman and bronzeman.
What to expect on mobile
Private clients set their own requirements, so the official OSRS minimums are only a reference. Expect to see differences in how you control the game. On the official app, input is touch only, with a single-tap mode that works like a right-click and tap-to-drop that works like shift-click dropping. A private client may copy or change these ideas.
The official app also replaces the older Function button with five customisable hotkeys, and it cannot use the Orb of Oculus. Those details come from the OSRS Wiki and describe only the official app. A private client has its own interface, so test the controls on a quiet area before you try a boss. If the server publishes a mobile setup guide, read it first, as Luna does at its getting started page.
| Topic | Official OSRS mobile | Private server client |
|---|---|---|
| Servers | Jagex | The operator's own |
| Account | Jagex account, shared with desktop | Separate account on the server |
| Distribution | Official app stores | APK or browser client from the server site |
| Requirements | Android 9.0+, OpenGL ES 3+, 4 GB RAM; iOS 13.0+, 3 GB RAM; 2 GB free storage | Set by the operator; often not listed |
| Plugins | Official feature set | Luna says mobile players also get RuneLite plugins |

Checks before you tap download
A mobile install is harder to undo than a browser tab, so spend two minutes on the checklist first. The items come from the general selection checklist in our research, adapted for phones.
- Region: some servers run US, EU and OCE worlds, and a nearby world lowers latency. August, for example, lists all three.
- Client source: the link must sit on the server's own domain, not in a chat message.
- Activity: a dated update and a Discord with people online beat a polished but silent site.
- Store: see what donators get, and whether it changes drop rates.
- Rules: read the policy on trading, gambling and real-world trading.
| Question | Good sign | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Where is the download? | Server's own website | Link from a stranger |
| Is there a changelog? | Dated posts in recent weeks | Undated or years old |
| Is the store clear? | Cosmetics or convenience | Items that change drop rates |
| Who is running it? | Named staff, rules page | No contact or staff list |
Smaller communities can still be fine for a casual phone player, but they offer less company. Check the Discord online count shown in the server's invite, and remember that server names and client files can change without notice.
Choosing a mobile-friendly server
Mobile support alone is not a reason to pick a server. Check the same things you would on desktop: revision, rates, what the store sells and whether updates are dated. Seasonal servers such as Luna describe a permanent economy world beside seasonal League worlds, so read how progress resets before you commit hours on a phone. Our wipes explainer shows what resets usually involve.
Our guides on choosing a server and server rates apply here too. If you are comparing official and private play, private versus official explains the differences, and the status page shows how often we re-check listings.
