How downloading works
Silkroad Online is a Windows game with no subscription fee. Players who search for a download usually end up on a private server, because each one distributes its own full client: you register on the server's website, grab the archive it links to, extract it and start its launcher.
That means sizes, specs and rules vary from server to server. This guide compares what Rexall, GreatestSRO and a few others publish, then walks through the install. To choose which realm to join first, use the Silkroad Online server list and come back here when you are ready to install.

Specs two servers publish
Most server sites skip the spec table, but a couple publish one. Both set a low bar by modern standards, and the recommended tier is still modest.
| Component | Rexall minimum | Rexall recommended | GreatestSRO minimum | GreatestSRO recommended |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 7 | Windows 10 | Windows 7/8/10/11 | Windows 10 or 11 |
| CPU | Pentium 3 800 MHz or higher | Intel i3 or higher | Intel Pentium 4 2.0 GHz | Intel Core i3 or better |
| RAM | 2 GB | 4 GB | 1 GB | 4 GB |
| Graphics | GeForce2 or ATI 9000 class | GeForce FX 5600 or ATI 9500 class | DirectX 9.0c | DirectX 11 |
| Storage | 5 GB or higher | 8 GB or higher | 8 GB | 10 GB |
Note that the two servers disagree about the RAM minimum and the amount of storage to reserve. Use the larger figure as your planning number, because the storage line on Rexall's page includes swap and temporary files.
Where the files come from
Server clients are large archives, so most are hosted on file-sharing services instead of the game site itself. Rexall's page links the full client on Google Drive and Mega.nz, and Legends Online links a Google Drive download. GreatestSRO offers a full client and a launcher from its own downloads page.
Some download pages also offer an extra package, such as a bot, next to the client. GreatestSRO lists Sbot at 14 MB and Rexall lists a Rexall-SBOT package. You do not need these to play, and whether you may use them depends on the server's rules, covered below.
Install checklist
- 1
Create an account
Register on the server website. GreatestSRO states that it charges nothing to create an account, download the client or play.
- 2
Download the full client
Pick the full client for a first install. GreatestSRO calls it the complete game client with all files included.
- 3
Extract the archive
Choose a folder with plenty of space. You may need WinRAR or 7-Zip for RAR archives.
- 4
Run the launcher as administrator
GreatestSRO tells players to run Launcher.exe as Administrator, let updates finish and press Start Game.
- 5
Fix what blocks it
Install the latest Visual C++ redistributables if the game will not start, and add the folder to your antivirus exceptions only after checking the file came from the server's own site.
“Make sure you're running as Administrator and have the latest Visual C++ Redistributables installed.”
If the launcher will not update, GreatestSRO suggests deleting it, downloading a fresh copy and making sure you have write permission for the game folder.
Client limits and bot rules
Downloading is the easy part. The bigger difference between servers is what the rules allow once you are in game. Several publish PC and IP limits, and they disagree about bots.
| Server | Cap | Clients and limits | Bots |
|---|---|---|---|
| Legends Online | 110 | One PC per account, two accounts per IP, multi clients not allowed | Strictly prohibited |
| GreatestSRO | 120 | PC and IP limit of 4 | Allowed, Sbot provided |
| Eternal Online | 100 | Two PCs and one IP | Bot-free per its description |
| NewEvolust | 120 | PC limit 2, IP limit 4 | Not stated on the page we read |
| SroAge Malazgirt | 110 | PC and IP limit of 10 | Not stated on the page we read |
“Multi clients are not allowed”
In practice, read the rules page before you open a second window. The cap you choose shapes this too: cap 110 servers and cap 120 servers are the most common places to meet these limits.
Three checks before you download
A multi-gigabyte download is a poor way to find out a server is dead or not what you wanted. Spend two minutes on these first.
| Check | What to look for | Example from a live site |
|---|---|---|
| Is it live? | Dated news, a live player counter or an active Discord | Rexall posted an Awaken crafting update on 13 October and Legends Online a news post on 15 September |
| What do the rules allow? | Bot policy, PC and IP limits, trading rules | Legends bans buying or selling gold; GreatestSRO allows botting |
| How is the economy funded? | Silk shop, vote silk, free silk or a real-money market | Rexall describes an open market where in-game earnings can become real money; read its terms first |
| Has it actually opened? | Countdown-only pages are not playable yet | Our research left out pre-launch projects that were countdown-only when checked |
Troubleshooting the first launch
| Problem | Suggested fix | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Game will not start | Run as Administrator and install the latest Visual C++ Redistributables | GreatestSRO |
| Launcher will not update | Delete it, download a fresh copy and check write permission on the folder | GreatestSRO |
| Antivirus interferes | GreatestSRO suggests adding the game to antivirus exceptions | GreatestSRO |
| Old graphics card | Check it supports DirectX 9.0c, the level both servers name | Rexall and GreatestSRO |
Treat any exclusion as a decision to make deliberately. Add one only when you trust the file, because it disables protection for that folder, a risk our safety guide discusses.
Choosing a client by cap
The cap is the maximum level, and it affects which gear and content the client carries. Rexall runs a cap 80 realm and lists a 2.1 GB client. GreatestSRO runs cap 120 with a 3.16 GB client. Late-cap servers such as cap 130 and cap 140 projects add higher degrees of gear, but neither of the two download pages we read ties a cap to a file size, so check each page.
Low cap vs high cap installs
Cap 80 to 100
- Rexall lists a 2.1 GB client
- Classic gear degrees
- Covered by the cap 100 and below category
Cap 120 and above
- GreatestSRO lists a 3.16 GB client
- Later degrees of gear
- Often with silk or season systems
New to the vocabulary? Cap, degree and silk are defined in the glossary, and how to choose a private server covers the rest of the decision.
