Players still using the VR MMORPG Zenith are affected by Ramen VR’s announced shutdown of the game’s online service. The studio confirmed that the servers will close on December 18, 2026, according to Road to VR, with existing players able to continue playing until the shutdown. Sales of Zenith: The Last City and the premium currency Zennies stopped on October 21.
What is closing on December 18
UploadVR details the final dates in Ramen VR’s shutdown schedule, while MassivelyOP lists the final access time as 1:00 p.m. EDT on December 18. UploadVR and Road to VR list the closure as 10:00 a.m. PST.
- Developer: Ramen VR
- Product: Zenith: The Last City and the free-to-play Zenith version
- Server closure: December 18, 2026
- Paid DLC and Zennies sales: Ended October 21
- Free download deadline: November 18, 2026
- Offline or community servers: No plans announced
Ramen VR later raised another $10 million and then $35 million while preparing to expand its team and support the game. The original game subsequently became the paid DLC Zenith: The Last City following the free-to-play pivot, which included the cooperative Infinite Realms mode. MassivelyOP also noted that Zenith never received its promised standalone PC version.
Development ended before the shutdown
Ramen VR then raised $10 million to grow its team before launch and another $35 million after early success, planning to double the team to maintain and grow the game.
It added quests, dungeons, armor sets, weapons and a matchmaking system for players entering without a group.
Ramen VR announced the end of active development in summer 2024, with the final content update arriving in August 2024. In July, the studio said Zenith would receive no more content updates but that the shards for both The Last City and free-to-play Zenith: Infinite Realms would remain safe for the foreseeable future.
The paid DLC initially remained available at $29.99 before being permanently reduced to $9.99. Infinite Realms ran four seasons and ended with Golden Isles, identified by UploadVR as the game’s final content update.
The free-to-play version will remain available to download through November 18, 2026. After that date, new users will no longer be able to download Zenith, although existing players can continue playing until the servers close on December 18.
Ramen VR attributed the closure to declining player numbers and revenue, the cost of operating the servers and the game becoming financially unsustainable. The studio said it had continued running the servers since its decision more than two years earlier.
"We have kept the servers online since that decision over two years ago. It isn’t feasible for us to continue running the servers at a loss." — Ramen VR, developer
Currency and remaining player access
The free edition will remain downloadable through November 18, and the Zenith: Nexus version is included in that access period.
Zenith is currently available through the Horizon Store for Quest 2 and later devices, as well as Steam for PC VR headsets. Ramen VR has stated that it has no plans for an offline version or community-hosted servers.
For readers looking at other community-run game-server ecosystems, the Private Servers guides to MU Online private servers and Conquer Online private servers cover separate games. Those options do not extend to Zenith because Ramen VR has said that community-hosted Zenith servers are not planned.
The defining date for the VR MMORPG is December 18, 2026, when its online service will end after more than two years of operation without active development.
