What is an Aion private server?

An Aion private server is a community-run version of the fantasy MMORPG built around the conflict between the Elyos and the Asmodians, with the Balaur as a third faction. These servers run on community emulators and are operated by independent teams who choose a patch, set rates and decide which features to keep.

Players level through Sanctum or Pandaemonium, unlock flight, enter the Abyss and fight for fortresses in large-scale sieges. Private servers keep the game's distinctive aerial combat and PvPvE structure while adjusting the pace.

Aion is a fantasy MMORPG by NCSoft set in Atreia, a world split between Elyos and Asmodians with a third faction, the Balaur, in the Abyss. It launched in South Korea in November 2008 and in the West in September 2009, and added level caps, classes and large patch lines over the years. Private servers exist because players want specific eras, for example 2.x classic content or the long-lived 4.6 and 4.8 builds, without the retail monetisation of later patches.

Aion versions explained

Aion private servers compared by region and build

Aion servers split along two lines: which patch they run and where they are hosted. Latency matters in sieges and Abyss PvP, so region is a real selection factor. The table covers the servers on our Aion list.

Aion private servers by build and region

HiveGamez Aion3.9 (Israphel) and TiamatEUEnglishNo pay-to-win promised

Patch choice interacts with region. The 4.8 build, described in our Aion 4.8 category, has the most choice across regions, while 4.6 and 2.x projects are fewer and tend to be single-region. Beyond Aion has operated since 2015 according to its own description, which makes it one of the longest-running options.

Rates and starting points on the checked servers

Few Aion servers publish a full rate table, but the ones that do show a pattern: low rates and a classic feel, or a shortcut straight to the cap.

Published rates and starting rules
ServerExperienceKinahDropStarting rule
Aion GGWPx1x2x1Standard leveling
HiveGamez Israphelx4not listednot listed3.9 content
HiveGamez Tiamatx1not listednot listedSecond realm
NotEvenAionNot applicableNot listedNot listedStart at level 65 with starter gear

NotEvenAion is the clearest shortcut: characters begin at level 65, the cap for the 4.x line, and progress through PvP, with an account currency called Might earned through PvP, PvE, arena and sieges. At the other end, Origin Aion describes accelerated progression with free starter gear and medals from PvE instances, rather than a flat rate multiplier.

Download size and launchers

A full Aion client is large, so the download method is practical information. Aion GGWP offers a 93 MB launcher with automatic mirror selection, a full client of roughly 37 GB and a torrent option, plus a separate mirror domain for Russian players whose provider blocks the game. HiveGamez provides a launcher with web and torrent downloads.

  • Prefer the launcher if you have a slow connection; it patches an existing client.
  • Keep the private client separate from any official Aion or Aion 2 install.
  • Take downloads only from the server's own site, since server files are also sold and impostor sites exist.
  • Check that the Discord invite on the site matches the one you join.

More on staying safe is in our safety guide, and the join guide covers account creation.

Signs a server is maintained

Dated posts are the best evidence. Beyond Aion's server update on 14 September 2026 fixed quest NPCs, skill dispel strengths and stigma buff behaviour, and ran a summer event from 3 to 23 August. NotEvenAion's post dated 16 September 2026 announced its 4.8 realm was back and a separate Aion Classic 2.7 PvP server in development. HiveGamez's last news items on its Aion page date to January 2026, and its status panel showed offline when checked.

How Aion private servers work

A private server is software that re-implements the game's back end so the official or a patched client can connect to it. For Aion the common building blocks are Aion emulator cores sold or shared by server-file vendors, Custom C++ server cores (Origin Aion mentions a retail C++ core). Some Russian-language servers offer separate mirror domains for providers that block the game.

How private servers differ from the official game

Official Aion moved through many updates that changed leveling, classes and gear. Private servers often freeze a favourite patch and tune rates for experience, kinah, drops and Abyss points, so you can reach the endgame without the original grind.

Many servers add custom features such as starter packs, enchant support, PvE event instances or improved drop tables. Some aim for a classic feel at modest rates, while others focus on fast progression into PvP.

Patches, classes and rates

Servers are described by patch. Early 2.x era patches recreate classic Aion with the original eight classes: Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric and Chanter. Later 4.x patches add the Gunner, Songweaver and Aethertech, plus new zones and gear tiers, and later versions continue to rework systems. Each patch has its own balance, so the same class can feel very different between servers.

Endgame revolves around the Abyss, fortress sieges, instanced dungeons and gear enhancement with enchantment stones and manastones. Rates cover experience, kinah, drops and Abyss points. Low-rate servers keep gear valuable and leveling meaningful, while high-rate servers get you to the cap quickly so the focus shifts to sieges and PvP.

How to choose an Aion server

Faction balance is crucial. Check how many players are online on each side, because a one-sided server makes sieges and open-world PvP frustrating. Pick a patch that includes the classes you want and confirm which instances and systems are working.

Read what the shop sells. Skins, pets and convenience items are common, but selling top-tier gear, high-grade manastones or enchantment stones can make the server pay-to-win. Look for active staff, a public bug tracker and regular updates, since emulated content can be incomplete.

Getting started

Create your character, choose Elyos or Asmodian and follow the campaign quests, which provide gear and introduce each zone. You unlock your class specialisation and flight through the early story, so complete those quests promptly. Many servers give starter packs, so check your inventory and the beginner NPCs before spending kinah.

As you approach the Abyss, join a legion. Legions organise fortress sieges, instance groups and PvP, and experienced members can explain the server's custom systems. Use manastones and enchantment stones carefully on gear you will keep, rather than on items you will replace after a few levels.

Learn your class's chain skills and flight controls early, since both matter in sieges and open-world PvP. If the server includes daily or weekly instance resets, track them so you do not miss the gear and Abyss point rewards that drive endgame progression. The server's Discord or forum is usually the best place to find instance groups and siege schedules.

Staying safe

Aion private servers are unofficial and not affiliated with or endorsed by NCSoft. Download clients and launchers only from the server's official website and scan them before running. Keep the private server client separate from any official installation.

Use a unique password and never reuse your official account credentials. Do not share your account with anyone offering free kinah, enchanting or leveling.

Keep exploring

Still deciding? Compare Aion servers by votes, rates and recent activity, read the glossary for any unfamiliar terms, and check a server's status before you download anything. If you run a server yourself, listing it is free.
