What is an OGame private server?
An OGame private server is an independently run version of the browser-based space strategy game in which players build planetary economies, research technologies and send fleets to raid or defend. These servers run on clone or recreated game engines and are hosted by independent teams rather than the official publisher.
Because the game runs in a browser, there is usually nothing to download. You register on the server's website, receive a home planet and begin building Metal Mines, Crystal Mines and Deuterium Synthesizers, then expand into research, shipyards, colonies and alliances.
OGame is a real-time browser space strategy game in which players manage planets, mines producing metal, crystal and deuterium, research, fleets and alliances. It has been developed and published by Gameforge since its release on 3 October 2002. Private servers and clones exist because players want different universe speeds, a pre-Lifeforms ruleset, no premium currency, new rules like PvE modes or seasons, or simply a free copy to host. Open-source frameworks such as OGameX, XG Proyect and 2Moons make it easy for independents to launch universes, so quality and longevity vary widely.

A short history of OGame
OGame was first released in 2002 by Gameforge. These are the milestones that shaped what private servers look like today.
| When | What happened |
|---|---|
| 2002-10 | OGame is released on 3 October 2002 (Wikipedia infobox). |
| 2022 | OGame marks its 20th anniversary with in-game events and content updates. |
| 2022 | OGameX, an open-source Laravel recreation, aims to rebuild OGame as it was before the 2022 Lifeforms update. |
| 2026 | OGameX lists 0.14.0 as its latest stable release with demo instances for main and stable. |
| 2026 | XG Proyect (open-source OGame clon) offers download v3.4.0 stable; the repo requires PHP 8.2+. |
“XG Proyect (XGP) is a web browser game based on the famous OGame. Our goal is to offer a package that is as similar as possible to the original”
OGame versions explained
Almost every private server picks one version of the game and sticks to it, so the version decides which content, classes and mechanics you get. Use this table to match a version to the style you want, then filter the server list accordingly.
| Version | Period | What it is | Typical servers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic (pre-Lifeforms) | 2002 until the Lifeforms update | Metal, crystal, deuterium, officers and moons without the species-based Lifeforms economy. Clones like Spy Games model the 2010 era. | Fair-play servers that copy the 2010-era formulas. |
| Lifeforms era | 2022 onward (per OGameX README) | Adds species with unique technologies and bonuses (per Wikipedia), plus classes and more complex economies. | Servers that include lifeforms, like Deuteria's four-race economy. |
| Custom redesigns | 2020s | Independent games that borrow the loop with classes, seasons, PvE or 3D views. | Seasons, tournaments, AI pirates. |
OGame rates and terms you will see
| Term | What it means | Typical range |
|---|---|---|
| Economy speed | Multiplier on resource production. | x1 to x1000 on checked servers |
| Research speed | Multiplier on research duration. | x1 to x500 on checked servers |
| Fleet speed | Multiplier on ship flight speed. | x1 to x20 on checked servers |
| Debris % | Share of destroyed ship or defence cost left as debris field. | 30% to 80% on checked servers |
| Dark matter | Premium currency used for officers and extras; some servers state it is earned in play. | Varies by server |
OGame server types
| Type | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Classic fair-play | Players who want the old ruleset and no premium advantages. | Small player bases on new servers. |
| Fast universes | Players who want to finish a build in weeks. | Resets or soft resets, as announced on Deuteria. |
| Seasonal / tournament | Competitive players who like fresh starts. | Season dates and what carries over. |
| PvE or custom mechanics | Players who dislike being raided by others. | Small communities and experimental rules. |

Rate profiles from live universes
Rates in OGame clones are not one number. Economy, research, fleet and combat can each carry their own multiplier, and debris and moon settings change what a raid is worth. The table shows settings that the servers on our OGame private servers page publish.
| Server | Economy / research / fleet | Debris and other settings |
|---|---|---|
| Azria | x1 / x1 / x1 | 30% debris, nine galaxies |
| Spy Games (Capella) | x4 / x4 / x4 | 30% debris; recreates the 2010 era with no pay-to-win |
| Cosmyra | x10 economy and game, x4 fleet, x6 expeditions | 30% fleet debris, none from defences |
| Inter-War | Game speed x40, resource extraction x200 | Fleet speed x5 |
| Deuteria (Antares) | x100 / x25 / x20, combat x10 | 80% ship debris, 30% moon chance, 500,000 starting resources |
| OGameXL (Centaurus) | Development x1000, research x500 | War fleet x6, peaceful fleet x8, 30% cut in fleet deuterium use, nine galaxies |
Notice how different the economics are. At x1 with 30% debris a recycled field is a modest bonus, while at 80% ship debris it can become the main income of a raiding alliance. Fleet speed is another lever: OGameXL gives war fleets x6 and peaceful fleets x8, so transports travel faster than warships, while Deuteria separates fleet x20 from combat x10. Before choosing, read the fast universes page for boosted worlds and our rates post for how multipliers interact.
How long a universe lasts
Official OGame universes run indefinitely. Private servers often choose a different shape, which changes how much a long-term plan is worth.
| Server | Format | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| OGame Turkey | Dated universes | Aldros runs 10 January 2026 to 10 January 2027; Paxar 8 May 2026 to 8 May 2027; Tartarus opens 12 September 2026 and closes 12 September 2027 |
| NebulonX | Seasons | Each galaxy is a 56-day season; up to 23 colonisable planets; three World Wonders from day 35 |
| OG Galaxy | Weekly tournaments | A weekly world championship ranking and tournaments with rewards |
| Deuteria | Announced resets | A reset announcement for 20 October on the homepage |
| DualOgame | PvP or PvE modes | AI pirate factions attack in PvE; no player can attack you |
A one-year universe is long enough for a full economy but guarantees a fresh start, a design explained in the server wipes post. If you dislike resets, look for open-ended universes and ask staff about their plans.
Engines, languages and community size
Most independent OGame universes are built on a handful of open-source engines, and the engine tells you what to expect from updates. Spy Games and DualOgame both show version 0.14.0, matching the stable release listed for the OGameX project. World of Galaxy says it is built on 2Moons, Xnova on the XNova engine, and XG Proyect is another clone framework.
| Server | Engine or lineage | Language and population at check |
|---|---|---|
| Spy Games | Version 0.14.0, OGame 2010 model | English; launched 7 September 2026 |
| DualOgame | Version 0.14.0 | Spanish; PvP or PvE |
| World of Galaxy | 2Moons | German-run, eight interface languages; 72 registered players, about one online |
| Xnova | XNova engine | Russian; about 510 registered, 153 online |
| Inter-War | OGame-like | Polish; about 780 players, 18 online |
| OGame Turkey | Dated universes | Turkish; three listed universes |
Pitfalls specific to this scene
- Version not stated. OGameXL, Inter-War and Cosmyra do not name a version, so confirm formulas before copying strategies.
- Beta labels. Cosmyra calls itself an official beta with a young universe, and OG Galaxy is new, so expect balance changes.
- Pay-to-win claims. Spy Games says it has no ads and no paid advantages, and Deuteria says no purchase unlocks content that play does not; check any server that sells dark matter.
- Mixed lineage. A few sites are inspired by OGame rather than copies, with their own classes and rules, so a guide for the original may not apply.
- Fragile records. Screenshots and notes of your key battle reports and rankings help if a small server resets or closes.
OGame terms worth knowing

| Jump gate | Moon building that moves fleets instantly. |
| Recyclers | Ships that collect debris fields. |
| Uni | Universe, a separate world with its own rates. |
How OGame private servers work
A private server is software that re-implements the game's back end so the official or a patched client can connect to it. For OGame the common building blocks are OGameX (Laravel, MIT), XG Proyect (PHP 8.2+, MySQL/MariaDB), 2Moons, XNova. OGameX recommends Docker, with a PHP/Laravel backend and a Rust battle engine via FFI; XG Proyect requires PHP 8.2 or greater.
How private servers differ from the official game
Official OGame universes have fixed settings and use Dark Matter, the premium currency, for features such as officers, instant building and resource packages. Private servers often run higher speeds, shorter rounds and free or reduced-cost premium features, which appeals to players who want competitive play without a long commitment.
Some servers also adjust rules, such as debris field percentages, noob protection, deuterium consumption or the number of galaxies. Small rule changes can change the meta significantly, so read the universe settings before you start.
Universe speed and key settings
OGame servers list separate speeds. Economy speed multiplies resource production and build times, while fleet speed controls how fast ships travel. A universe with high economy speed but low fleet speed rewards builders, while high fleet speed favours aggressive raiders.
Other settings shape strategy. Debris fields determine how much destroyed ships and defences leave behind for recyclers, and the chance of creating a moon after a battle matters because moons offer Sensor Phalanx scanning and Jump Gates. Alliance Combat System (ACS) attacks let allies combine fleets. Some servers include player classes such as Collector, General and Discoverer, and some include expeditions and newer systems like lifeforms.
Many private servers run in rounds that end after a set time or condition, then reset. The round length and reset schedule decide how much time you need to commit.
How to choose an OGame server
Pick a speed that suits your schedule. High-speed universes reward frequent logins and quick fleet saves, while slower universes suit players who check in a few times a day. Look at how many players are active, whether alliances are balanced and how long the current round has been running.
Check the premium policy. Some servers give Dark Matter through daily rewards or voting, some sell it, and some disable paid features. Servers that sell large amounts of resources or instant ships can be decided by spending. Read the multi-account and pushing rules and how staff enforce them.
A strong opening
In the first days, focus on Metal and Crystal Mines, keep enough Solar Plants or Satellites for energy and research Espionage and Combustion Drive early. Build a few Small Cargo ships to collect resources from inactive players once your protection ends, and spend your first resources on colonising a second planet.
Join an alliance early. Alliances share intelligence, organise ACS attacks and defend members, and experienced players can explain the universe's specific settings. Save your fleet whenever you go offline, and avoid building large defences too early if raiders are more profitable targets than defenders in your galaxy.
Staying safe
OGame private servers are unofficial and not affiliated with or endorsed by the official game's publisher. Register only on the server's official website, check the address carefully and avoid browser extensions or bots that claim to automate fleet saving or farming.
Use a unique password and email login, and never share your account outside any official vacation or sitting system. Only make payments through methods linked from the server's official site.
