What is a Rust private server?

Rust is a multiplayer survival game by Facepunch Studios in which players gather resources, build bases and fight over territory on procedurally generated maps. Facepunch runs official servers, but most players use community servers, which set their own gather rates, team limits and wipe schedules. Community servers range from vanilla-rate to 2x, 5x and 10x boosted, to PvE, roleplay and creative servers. Monthly forced wipes tied to Facepunch updates keep the community on a shared calendar.

Rust versions explained

Almost every private server picks one version of the game and sticks to it, so the version decides which content, classes and mechanics you get. Use this table to match a version to the style you want, then filter the server list accordingly.

Rates in practice: what listed networks actually run

Gather multipliers only tell part of the story. The server descriptions we verified also show what else changes at each rate, such as smelting speed, loot tables and sulfur. The table below uses figures stated on each community's own pages when we checked on 15 October 2026, so confirm them on the live listing before you commit a wipe to a server.

Rates and wipe patterns on named Rust networks
NetworkRateWipe patternWhat else the description says
Rusty Moosex1Monthly, first ThursdayMap and blueprint wipes both happen at the forced wipe
Rusticated (EU 2x)x2Weekly, ThursdayBlueprints wipe only at the monthly forced wipe; junk removed from loot
Stevious (2x Main)x2, with 2.5x wood and sulfurWeekly, ThursdayHalf smelting and crafting speed; building blueprints unlocked
Survivors.ggx2Fixed weekly CEST timesHalf smelting speed, five-minute nights; monthly server has no kits or teleport
Atlas (EU 3x)x3Every MondayBlueprints never wiped; no paid features
Atlas (EU 10x)x10, x15 sulfurMonday and Friday, 17:00 GMTBoosted kits sold from a store
SisuRust 10xx10, x15 sulfurEvery Friday, 18:00 Finnish timeAll blueprints unlocked, instant crafting, maximum team of five

In the examples above, the 10x servers wipe at least weekly, while the monthly servers sit at x1 or x2, so the rate is a good hint about how long a wipe will feel fresh. Compare the options on our 2x and 3x and 10x and kits pages, or the default-rate vanilla servers.

Group limits and upkeep

Team limits are where servers differ most, and they are rarely a plain number. The listings show anything from a solo-only rule to a 50-player group limit, and several owners say staff and plugins enforce them.

Group limits and decay rules stated by servers
ServerStated limit or rule
Rusty Moose, US MonthlyGroup limit 12
Rustopia, US LargeGroup limit 16, monthly map and blueprint wipes
Rusticated, EU 2x ThursdayGroup limit 12
Hex Rust, US PvE hubGroup limit 8, no offline raiding
RustMates, Main 2xTeam limit 4, enforced by plugin and staff; grouping results in a ban
RustLands, US 5000 mapGroup limit 50
RustForNoobsUpkeep reduced to 50 percent

Wipe week: timers, events and blueprint policy

Facepunch's wiki says the default wipe timer for a monthly server is the first Thursday at 19:00 London time, weekly is every Thursday and biweekly is the first and third Thursday. The timer is shown on the lowest level of the Nuclear Missile Silo monument and also starts endgame events within an hour of 24 hours before the wipe. Those events include flyovers by an F-15E Strike Eagle and roaming Road Bradleys.

Blueprint wipe policies on listed servers
ServerBlueprint policy
Rusty MooseWiped at the monthly forced wipe
RustopiaWiped monthly together with the map
Rusticated (EU 2x)Wiped only at the monthly forced wipe
Atlas (EU 3x)Never wiped
Limitless RustNot wiped
RustLandsNever wiped

Local time is the other trap. Rustafied schedules wipes at 3pm local time per region, while Rusty Moose and RustLands state 2pm Eastern. Our guide to server wipes explains how to convert a stated time before you plan your evening around it.

Decoding common description tweaks

Server descriptions are dense. The same handful of tweaks appear again and again, and each changes how a wipe feels. Knowing them lets you compare a 2x server from one network with a 2x server from another.

Tweaks that appear in verified descriptions
TweakWhere we saw itWhat it means for you
Half smelting and crafting timeStevious, Survivors.gg, RusticatedEarly progress is quicker even at modest gather rates
Junk removed from lootRusticated, Stevious, AtlasFewer useless items per crate, faster component hunting
Recyclers at extra monumentsSurvivors.gg, Limitless Rust, WarBanditsScrap and components are easier to turn into gear
Blueprints unlockedSisuRust 10x, Survivors.ggSkips research, leaving more time for fighting
Queue-skip VIPRusty Moose, Rustafied, SteviousPaid convenience; Rustafied says it does not change vanilla gameplay

Treat each tweak as a question for the staff, not a promise. If a server advertises a feature you care about, confirm it is still active in the current wipe.

PvE and roleplay options

Not every group wants to raid. RustEZ runs 14 PvE servers across four regions, from Pure PvE with low decay to a zombie variant, and Hex lists a monthly 1x and a biweekly 5x PvE server with a 2250-size map. Rust Empires builds territory claims, factions and casinos on top of the game. Hex, RustEZ and Rusty Old Gamers each describe different PvE flavours, from skill systems to hardcore PvE on a smaller map. Browse the full range on the PvE servers and roleplay and creative pages.

How Rust private servers work

A private server is software that re-implements the game's back end so the official or a patched client can connect to it. For Rust the common building blocks are Oxide / uMod, Carbon. Community servers run Facepunch's dedicated server, optionally with Oxide plugins; modded servers appear under the modded tag. Easy Anti-Cheat applies on servers.

How to choose a Rust server

Work through this checklist before you commit time or money to any server:

  1. Gather rate and team limit
  2. Wipe day and time
  3. Blueprint wipe policy
  4. Region and ping
  5. Vanilla vs modded
  6. VIP and store offerings
  7. Discord size and activity
  8. Admin policy (playing admins?)
  9. Anti-cheat and ban policy
  10. Population at wipe

Safety, scams and legality

  • Check that VIP only buys queue skip or cosmetics.
  • Never download files from a server's Discord.
  • Link accounts only through Steam login pages on the server's own domain.
  • Be aware that banned accounts connected to a server may result in bans.
  • Team limits are staff-enforced; read the rules.

Getting started on a Rust server

  1. 1

    Pick a server

Start from the Rust server list or the most voted servers, and read the description, rates and rules.

  2. 2

    Check the server’s own website

Confirm it is online, shows recent news and states its version. Our status checks help, but the website is the source of truth.

  3. 3

    Install the client

Install Rust from Steam and connect from the server browser or with client.connect ip:port in the F1 console.

  4. 4

    Check requirements

Community servers run Facepunch's dedicated server, optionally with Oxide plugins; modded servers appear under the modded tag. Easy Anti-Cheat applies on servers.

  5. 5

    Join the community

Most servers run a Discord. Ask about wipes, staff and the donation policy before you spend anything.

Keep exploring

Still deciding? Compare Rust servers by votes, rates and recent activity, read the glossary for any unfamiliar terms, and check a server's status before you download anything. If you run a server yourself, listing it is free.
