How the Ragnarok job tree works
Every Ragnarok Online character starts as a Novice, picks a first job at job level 10 and later specialises into a second job. After that the tree depends on the ruleset: classic pre-renewal servers centre on transcendent classes, while renewal servers continue to third and fourth jobs. Knowing the tree helps you choose between the Ragnarok private servers in our directory, because each one stops at a different episode.
Wikipedia says the job system started with 13 classes and grew to more than 50. The tables below follow the iRO Wiki job tree, which also covers expanded classes. Rates, caps and custom jobs are set by each server, so confirm them in the server's wiki. Terms such as MVP, WoE and rebirth are in the glossary.
- First job
- Job level 10
- Rebirth requirement
- Base 99 / Job 50
- Fourth class cap
- 260 / 55
Novice to a first class
Wikipedia and iRO Wiki
iRO Wiki job tree
From Novice to transcendent
“A Swordman is a strong-willed fighter seeking to lead other adventurers with their Sword and Shield.”
| First class | Second classes | Transcendent versions |
|---|---|---|
| Swordman | Knight, Crusader | Lord Knight, Paladin |
| Mage | Wizard, Sage | High Wizard, Scholar |
| Merchant | Blacksmith, Alchemist | Mastersmith, Biochemist |
| Acolyte | Priest, Monk | High Priest, Champion |
| Thief | Assassin, Rogue | Assassin Cross, Stalker |
| Archer | Hunter, Bard, Dancer | Sniper, Minstrel, Gypsy |
The second-job gate is described differently by different pages. The iRO Wiki job tree lists job level 50 for leaving a first class (70 for transcended characters), while a pre-renewal summary we found mentions job level 40. Check the server's rules. Bards and Dancers depend on the character's gender, and the first-class choice locks the second-class path permanently according to the iRO Wiki.
Transcendence, also called rebirth, requires base level 99 and job level 50 in a second job. Wikipedia says rebirth resets both levels to 1, and that transcendent second jobs get more skills and stat points but a much steeper experience curve. The result starts as a High Novice and changes into the high version of the same line at job level 10.
Third classes, fourth classes and expanded jobs
| Tier | Requirement | Classes |
|---|---|---|
| Third class | Base 99 / Job 70 as a transcendent second class | Rune Knight, Royal Guard, Warlock, Sorcerer, Mechanic, Geneticist, Arch Bishop, Sura, Guillotine Cross, Shadow Chaser, Ranger, Maestro, Wanderer |
| Fourth class | Base 200 / Job 70 | Dragon Knight, Imperial Guard, Arch Mage, Elemental Master, Meister, Biolo, Cardinal, Inquisitor, Shadow Cross, Abyss Chaser, Windhawk, Troubadour, Trouvere |
| Expanded classes | Vary by line | TaeKwon Kid and Master, Ninja, Gunslinger, Super Novice, Summoner |
| Line | Key details |
|---|---|
| Super Novice | Base level 45 required for the change; later expands at base 99 / job 99 |
| TaeKwon | TaeKwon Kid goes to TaeKwon Master at base 99 / job 50 without rebirth |
| Ninja and Gunslinger | Second expanded class at 99 / 70, third at 200 / 70, cap 260 / 55 |
| Summoner (Doram) | Advanced Summoner at base 100, Spirit Handler at 200 / 70 |
Which servers reach which tier
| Server | Ruleset | Rates | Class ceiling stated |
|---|---|---|---|
| UaRO | Pre-renewal with integrated Renewal content, around Episode 13.3 | 5x base and job | Pre-renewal tree with selected Renewal content |
| Chrono RO | Renewal formulas, Episode 17.2 | 3x base and job | Third jobs, level cap 200 base and 70 job |
| MuhRO | Renewal Episode 21 | 50x, 25x logarithmic drops | All fourth and expanded jobs, level cap 275 |
| HymnRO | Renewal Episode 21 | 25x, 10x drops | All fourth and expanded jobs |
| Oldschool RO | Pre-renewal Episode 13.2 | 3000x base and job | Third and custom jobs, caps 255 / 100 |
| Sovereign RO | Renewal Episode 20, plus a pre-renewal Classic server | 7x base and job | Episode 20 content; fourth jobs not stated |
Rates change how fast you climb the tree, not what is in it. At 3x you spend far longer on each tier than at 3000x, where the cap comes quickly. Read understanding server rates and the low and mid rate and high rate pages to match pacing to your schedule.
Choosing a class and a server
- 1
Pick the ruleset
Pre-renewal servers usually keep the classic tree, and some add third or custom jobs. Renewal continues to fourth classes. Decide this before you pick a first job.
- 2
Check the episode
Servers state an episode such as 13.2, 13.3, 17.2 or 21. The episode tells you which classes and content exist.
- 3
Match rates to your time
Low rates reward a long grind, while very high rates favour PvP and WoE. Use the how to choose a server checklist.
- 4
Read the custom class rules
Several servers add custom jobs, auto-combat or job changers. UaRO states there are no warpers, job changers or multi-client play, which keeps the progression closer to the original.
- 5
Test before donating
Create a Novice, reach the first job and see whether the community is active. The join guide covers account setup.
Pre-renewal versus renewal class paths
Pre-renewal
- Classic first, second and transcendent classes

- Slower, card and MVP economy
- Examples: UaRO, PrimaryRO, WayRO
Renewal
- Third classes, then fourth classes at later episodes
- Caps up to 260 / 55 per iRO Wiki, 275 on MuhRO
- Instances and reworked mechanics
- Examples: MuhRO, HymnRO, Chrono RO
