What an OTS is
OTS stands for Open Tibia Server. It is a world run by volunteers or small teams that imitates CipSoft's Tibia using community-made server software. Each OTS sets its own rates, map, rules and shop. Your official Tibia account does not work there. To compare worlds, start with the Tibia private server list.
Tibia itself is old and large. Wikipedia lists a January 1997 release by CipSoft, a free-to-play model with optional premium time, and a peak of 64,028 concurrent players on November 28, 2007. A 2009 CipSoft poll put the biggest player populations in Brazil (26.56 percent) and Poland (24.38 percent), which still shows in the OTS scene today.

The three parts: server, client and map
Three pieces make an OTS. The server program runs the world, the client shows it to you, and the map and scripts decide what the world contains. Operators choose each independently, which explains the variety.
| Part | What it is | Examples from public projects |
|---|---|---|
| Server software | Runs the game rules and database | The Forgotten Server (TFS), Canary, OTServBR |
| Client | The program you play with | OTClient, or a client supplied by the server |
| Map and data | Cities, monsters, items and scripts | Real map copies or custom maps |
“A free and open-source MMORPG server emulator written in C++”
That is how The Forgotten Server describes itself. Its readme says it is a fork of the OpenTibia Server project and points players to OTClient. OTClient's repository calls itself an alternative Tibia client written in C++20 and Lua, under the MIT licence, with protocol support from 7.6 up to 12.92 and from 13.00 to 15.24.
| Server software | Client versions listed |
|---|---|
| TFS 7.72 | 7.72 |
| TFS 0.4 | 8.6 |
| TFS 1.5 | 8.0 and 8.60 |
| TFS 1.4.2 | 10.98 |
| TFS 1.6 | 13.10 |
| Canary | 13.21 to 13.40, 14.00 to 14.12, 15.00 to 15.24 |
You normally do not install the server. The operator hosts it, and you download whichever client their website provides.
Client versions
The version number names the protocol era the server copies. It decides your hunting grounds, spells, interface and even how many players still play. Our pages for 7.4 and 7.x, 8.60 and custom EVO servers group servers by these eras.
| Version | Style | Examples and what they state |
|---|---|---|
| 7.4 | Retro 1x hardcore | Miracle 7.4: 1x rates and frag system; Inferna74: opened September 18, 2026 with authentic 7.4 base |
| 7.72 | Retro with custom client | Memoria Online: custom client and server with built-in updater |
| 8.60 | Real-map RPG and war | NoxiousOT: staged XP x50 to x0.2, magic x6, skills x12, loot x2 |
| 10.98 | Custom teleport style | Evolunia: staged XP from x50 to x1 |
| 8.60 to 15.31 | Custom EVO | Eloria: PC, Android, iOS and browser play |
7.4 versus 8.60
7.4 and 7.x
- Simple retro gameplay
- Often 1x with open PvP
- Smaller communities on new launches
- Minimal custom systems
8.60
- The most common OTS client
- High-rate war and custom RPG servers
- Large content libraries
- Bigger player counts
Rates, resets and shops
Rates multiply how fast you gain levels and skills. Many OTS use stages, so the multiplier falls as you level. Compare them with what 1x, 10x and 100x mean. A server with 1x rates and open PvP plays very differently from a x50 start that tapers off.
| Server | Stated settings |
|---|---|
| Miracle 7.4 | 1x experience, skills, magic and loot |
| TibiaNU | 1x on every stat; launched October 13, 2026 |
| NoxiousOT | Staged XP, magic x6, skills x12, loot x2 |
| OxygenOT | Magic x6, skills x4, loot x1, staged XP; seasonal resets (Season IX, Patch 4.1) |
| Cyleria and Eloria | Advertise no resets |
Shops deserve the same scrutiny as rates. Servers commonly sell points for real money, so read what the points buy before donating. Tale of Titan, for example, has a coin shop for donations, while Inferna74 states that it avoids pay-to-win. A shop that sells cosmetics is different from one that sells power, and the private versus official article explains why this matters to fairness.
Resets matter for time investment. Some projects run seasons that restart progress, and others promise none. Our wipes explainer shows how to read those announcements, and the glossary defines terms like frag, stages and rebirth.
Regions, languages and activity
The OTS scene follows the same geography as the official game. Many large projects are Brazilian or Polish, and some are in English for a global audience. Louco Serv is a Brazilian Portuguese server, Cyleria and Eloria are Polish-run, and Miracle 7.4 and NoxiousOT write in English. Hosting location affects latency, so look for proxies or a nearby host.
| Server | Online at check | Where the number came from |
|---|---|---|
| Cyleria | About 811 | Site header |
| NoxiousOT | About 595 | Site header |
| OxygenOT | 472 of 1,000 | Site status panel |
| Miracle 7.4 | About 206 | Site header |
| Tale of Titan | About 139 | Site header |
| Eloria | About 131 | Site header |
| Evolunia | About 124 | Server information panel |
| Inferna74 | About 12 | Site header, days after launch |
These are snapshots from October 15, 2026, not averages. They show a wide spread: established projects hold hundreds of players, while a server days after launch may have a dozen. A small population is not automatically bad, but it changes how easily you find parties and trades.
How to join and what to check
- 1
Choose an era and style
Decide between retro 1x, war servers and custom RPG or EVO.
- 2
Open the server's website
Read the server info page for version, rates and rules.
- 3
Download the client from that site
Use the server's own link, or OTClient if it tells you to.
- 4
Create an account with a unique password
Never reuse a CipSoft or email password.
- 5
Check the shop and rules
Look for pay-to-win items, frag and skull rules, and reset notices.
- 6
Look for recent activity
Check the newest news post, changelog and player count. Our status page shows how we re-check listings.
