What is a Metin2 private server?

A Metin2 private server is a community-run version of the martial arts MMORPG set across three warring kingdoms. These servers run on modified server files and their own client, and they are operated by independent teams who choose the level cap, rates, systems and custom content.

Players return to destroy Metin stones, hunt bosses, upgrade gear at the blacksmith and fight for Shinsoo, Chunjo or Jinno. The flexible files have produced a huge variety of servers, from faithful oldschool recreations to heavily customised PvP worlds.

Metin2 is a Korean MMORPG with action-oriented hack-and-slash combat, three warring kingdoms (Shinsoo, Chunjo, Jinno), guilds, guild wars and a Yang-based economy. It was first released in South Korea in 2004 and is published in Europe by Gameforge. Private servers exist because the official game kept adding levels, systems and item-mall features, while many players want a fixed ruleset such as the classic level 99 or 105 era, faster or slower progression, or PvP-first design. The scene is multilingual: German, Turkish, Romanian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, French and Italian communities each run their own projects, and many servers publish their site in six to twelve languages.

Level caps across the listed servers

The level cap is the quickest way to place a server in time. Official Metin2 currently advertises a level 120 maximum on Gameforge's page, and private projects span a much wider range. This table shows the caps stated on each server's own pages.

Level caps stated on server sites
CapServersStyle
99Projekt-Hard.eu, OM2 (OldMetin2)Hard oldschool PvM
105Nyxos2, Mt2Beran, WoM2, Crystal2, Fallen2Classic-era PvM, medium PvM and one PvP server
115Rebellion2PvM with custom systems
120Avelia2, Vision II OldSchool, Mt2 Origenes (final stage)Medium PvM and easy oldschool
165 to 175+ImperiaWorld (165), Nappy2 (170), Stellaria (175+)Newschool with elemental content
250Metin2Osiris (shown in its ranking)Later-version files, Romanian

Pick a band first, then a style. The oldschool category collects the 99 and 105 projects, while the newschool category holds the high-cap ones. Mt2 Origenes is different: it describes a three-stage progression with caps at 80, 90 and 120, so its cap changes as the server advances.

Speed servers and how they differ from the main realm

Some projects run a temporary speed realm next to the main server. Stellaria's Astrallia is the clearest published example: it started on 2 October at 18:00 CET, is set to run until 1 December and will then be merged into the main servers.

Stellaria's Astrallia event server versus the main realm
FeatureAstrallia event server
Start levelCharacters start at level 100
Starter gearSkill gear at level 150 and element shields at level 175
Support itemsA buff pet for 60 days and a completed biologist up to level 100
DungeonsThree times faster dungeon cooldowns
BossesTwice faster boss respawns
DropsFive times higher weapon drop rate in selected dungeons
EconomyA protection system described to limit gear inflation

Bonuses, events and quality-of-life systems in practice

Most listed servers advertise the same headline features, but the specifics vary. These examples come from server pages and show what to compare.

System details published by servers
SystemServerDetail
Base ratesNyxos2x2 experience, x2 yang, x1 drop
New-player boostAvelia2Experience ring with a 50 percent boost
Event cadenceAvelia2A new event every three hours between 13:00 and 24:00 German time
Upgrade protectionZeyraGod's Mercy makes the next upgrade guaranteed after repeated failures at the same level
Biologist paceMt2BeranResearch delay reduced to ten minutes per delivery
PvP accessAscensionPvP gear craftable from level 55 for 10,000 yang each
Global drop bonusZeyra20 percent when checked

Treat a bonus as a trade-off. A guaranteed upgrade system shortens grinding but changes the item economy, and a ten-minute biologist delay speeds up a quest line that other servers keep slow. Our rates guide explains how to read multipliers, and the glossary defines biologist, switchbot and the other terms above.

Languages and regional communities

Metin2's private scene is organised by language more than by game rules. Staff, events and trade chat usually run in one main language, even when the site offers several.

Main language and offered languages
ServerMain communityLanguages stated
Rebellion2PortuguesePortuguese with an English option
Mt2BeranSpanishEnglish, Portuguese, Romanian, Turkish
Fallen2TurkishTargets the Turkish PvP audience
Vision II OldSchoolRomanianRomanian site
AscensionFrenchFrench site
Projekt-Hard.euPolish and EnglishPolish and English
ImperiaWorldItalian-run, internationalNine client languages
OM2InternationalTwelve site languages
ZeyraInternationalThirteen interface languages

If you want an active chat, check the live player counter and Discord presence rather than the number of languages. Projekt-Hard.eu's Discord has more than twenty thousand members, WoM2's nearly ten thousand and Stellaria's over five thousand, which is large for this scene. Use the PvM list or the PvP list to narrow by style.

Pitfalls specific to this scene

  • Beta phases: Nyxos2 was in an open beta with limited slots when checked, so expect a young player base.
  • Restarts and refunds: Mt2 Origenes announced a reopening in July after a restart, with refunds for earlier coin purchases handled by the administrator.
  • Unverifiable communities: Metin2Osiris has no dated news and its Discord invites did not resolve to a matching guild, and Nappy2's invite could not be validated.
  • Hidden details: Projekt-Hard.eu shows presentation details only to logged-in accounts, so ask staff about systems and the shop before downloading.
  • Giveaways tied to player counts: Avelia2 advertises a giveaway tied to a player-count milestone. Read the terms and never pay to qualify.

Pair these checks with the private server safety guide and compare mixed PvM and PvP servers after you have decided on a cap.

How Metin2 private servers work

A private server is software that re-implements the game's back end so the official or a patched client can connect to it. For Metin2 the common building blocks are Private server files vary; communities such as metin2.dev discuss them. Clients are Windows based. Several sites mention DirectX 11 support and in-client wiki, switchbot and auto-potion tools.

How private servers differ from the official game

The official game kept adding level caps, systems and item mall features over time. Private servers usually lock in a ruleset and tune it, with higher experience and drop rates, faster upgrading and more generous bonus switching. Many add quality-of-life features such as teleport rings, auto-pickup, extended inventories or shop search.

Monetisation also differs. Most private servers fund themselves through an item shop, and the range is wide: from cosmetics and convenience to direct sales of powerful items. Understanding the shop is one of the most important steps before choosing a server.

Server types, level caps and classes

Oldschool servers often cap at level 99 or 105, keeping the classic maps, items and slower pace. Middle-school and newschool servers raise the cap to 120 or beyond and include later systems such as dragon stone alchemy, costumes with bonuses, pets and newer dungeons. PvP servers start players at a high level with gear readily available, so fights begin almost immediately. PvM-PvP servers balance monster farming and boss hunting with player combat.

There are five classes: Warrior, Ninja, Sura, Shaman and, on servers that include it, the Lycan. Each has two skill paths, such as Body or Mental for Warriors, Blade or Archery for Ninjas, Weaponry or Black Magic for Suras, and Dragon or Healing for Shamans. Bonus values on gear, such as average damage or critical hit, define how strong a build becomes.

How to choose a Metin2 server

Decide between oldschool, PvM-PvP and pure PvP first, then check the level cap and the systems included. Look at the population during your usual hours, kingdom balance and whether guild wars and events are active.

Read the item shop carefully. Costumes, convenience items and switchers available through play are common. Selling top weapons, high-bonus items or stones of the strongest grade can make the server pay-to-win. Look for active staff, a published changelog and clear action against bots, multi-farming and speed hacks.

Getting started

Pick your kingdom and class, then follow the server's starter quests. Many servers give a starter pack with a mount, gear and potions, plus teleport rings to reach farming maps quickly. Learn your skill path early, since the choice between two paths is made around level 5 and changes your role.

Focus on destroying Metin stones and completing biologist and dungeon quests as you level, because they provide experience, skill books and upgrade materials. Save yang for blacksmith upgrades and bonus switching rather than temporary gear. Join a guild for dungeon runs, guild wars and advice on the server's custom systems, and use the server's Discord to keep up with events and updates.

Staying safe

Metin2 private servers are unofficial and not affiliated with or endorsed by the game's developer or publishers. Download clients and patchers only from the server's official website and scan them before running. Avoid third-party bots and hacks, which are a common source of malware.

Use a unique password for each server and enable any account protection the server offers. Never share your account or warehouse password with players promising free yang, upgrades or leveling.

Keep exploring

Still deciding? Compare Metin2 servers by votes, rates and recent activity, read the glossary for any unfamiliar terms, and check a server's status before you download anything. If you run a server yourself, listing it is free.
